Memory Bears -

A Little Bit of Someone,

Kept Close!

Some fabric is too full of memories to keep folded in a drawer, and far too full to throw away.

A memory bear, elephant, foxie-loxie or rabbit, is made from clothing or fabric that belonged to someone you love. A favourite shirt. A well-worn dressing gown. A christening gown, a uniform, a blanket. I take it apart with a great deal of care, and stitch it back together as something you can hold.

It’s the most personal thing I make, and I never forget that what arrives in the post is irreplaceable.

How I look after your fabric?

  • I’ll tell you before I start whether the fabric will work, and what I’d suggest if it won’t.
  • I keep every offcut. Anything left over comes back to you with the bear.
  • Buttons, labels, embroidered initials, a pocket — if there’s a detail that matters, tell me and I’ll build the bear around it.
  • One garment usually makes one bear comfortably, or you may wish that I use multiple fabrics for one bear. If you’d like several bears — for siblings, or for grandchildren — send me what you have and I’ll tell you honestly what it will stretch to.

Starting a memory bear

  1. Message me and tell me a little about who the fabric belonged to. It genuinely helps me make a better bear.
  2. Send a photo of the garment or fabric before you post or deliver anything.
  3. I’ll confirm the price, the timescale, and where to send it.
  4. I’ll be in touch while I’m making, and your bear will come home carefully wrapped.

There’s no rush, and no wrong time to ask. Some people come to me within weeks, others after years. Whenever you’re ready, I’m here.
